CalTimes has meant so much to me since the start of my Freshman year, three years ago! I started out with an interest to cover news topics for the University Honors Program, which quickly branched out to so much more. I contribute my involvement to the past Editor-In-Chief, V, who took me under her wing and encouraged me to become more involved in CalTimes. As a Sophomore I became Editor-In-Chief and it warms my heart to see how much our Media Suite family has grown over the years!

Our amazing Vice President, Adam Meyers has helped expand our Social Media reach and writer interest, as he captured visuals and audio using videos he recorded, edited, and produced through Vulcan Drones. I am very excited for the plans he has to expand Vulcan Drones even further in the Fall 2024 Semester!

Our Treasurer and Social Media Coordinator, Ashlyn Hornick, has done an exceptional job sharing our news, pictures, and videos on Social Media to help broaden our reach. You may have noticed our awesome CalTimes t-shirts around campus, Hornick helped to rebrand and redesign our logo, which will continue to be used for years to come!

I wish the best of luck to our current Secretary and one of our Editors, Anna Hohowski, who was great at representing CalTimes at House of Representatives Meetings and Org Fairs, while she covered many news stories to keep the campus informed!

To Andrew White, our awesome Sports Editor, thank you so much for highlighting our impressive student athletes both on and off the court/field. You captured several great interviews with many legacy icons in sports that generated some of our highest viewership!

Our talented News/Review Editor, Andrew Havens, was great at pushing the boundaries on writing through covering many hot topics around campus and global issues, such as with the impact of AI!

I am excited to continue reading articles from our amazing writers Braxton Turner and Jessica Wheeler who have went above and beyond writing articles this semester, covering so much content! I am even more excited to see Michael Vinsick and other writers continue to become more involved with CalTimes! I encourage everyone to consider an officer position next school year!

A special shout out to our photographers Nate Kurtz, JJ Robinson, and Noah Turner who have captured many great moments for a wide variety of events! A picture really is worth a thousand words with your skills.

I cannot thank Dr. Goh enough for all her support with hosting writing workshops for students, encouraging students to write in various categories (sports, opinion, entertainment, etc.), and for always being available to attend our meetings and sign the many purchase requests we had!

A special shoutout to Gary Smith, who is always very supportive and uplifting as he helped grow our Media Suite family over the years and allowed me to utilize all of the white boards in the Media Suite. Thank you for all that you do!

There are so many memories over the years that I will forever cherish, but three really stand out to me! Writing an article about Vulcan Village titled “Vulcan Village Applications Open Now

Vulcan Village – Apartments Made for You”  which highlighted the benefits for students to have more independence in their college experience through more self-sufficient housing options and for this to always remain an option for students during their college journey. Second, was covering New Life’s and Criminal Justice’s Asservo Project to help raise awareness and put an end to Human Trafficking, which was highlighted in the article “Human Trafficking: Yes, it’s in Your Backyard.” My third memory was being elected Homecoming Queen last fall semester, as I could not have done it without the support from the entire Media Suite who encouraged me to run for Homecoming alongside Jon Sape and Jonny Sakaguchi.

Thank you to all of our readers, supporters, and staff members. I am looking forward to continuing to read the weekly editions of CalTimes as an Alumnus, as I am off to PNC Financial Services in downtown Pittsburgh.

Thank you Vulcan Nation! Your CalTimes Editor-in-Chief, officially signing off.
