On April 17, 2025, students, faculty, and technology leaders gathered at PennWest Edinboro’s Baron-Forness Library for the official launch of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies (CAIET).
The event featured expert discussions on the real-world applications of artificial intelligence, how emerging technologies are shaping modern life, and the role universities can play in preparing students for AI-integrated careers. Panelists addressed both the promise and challenges of these rapidly evolving tools, including ethical considerations, workforce transformation, and accessibility in the digital age.
Student-led innovation played a key role in the launch, with the introduction of the AI & Technology Student Ambassadors, a group of student leaders across PennWest campuses who will serve as peer educators, event organizers, and tech advocates. Their mission: bridge the gap between students and emerging technologies, promote AI literacy, and ensure that innovation is inclusive and community-focused.
“AI isn’t just for computer scientists,” one student ambassador shared. “It’s something every major, every student, and every community will interact with. We want to help everyone feel empowered, not intimidated.”
The center aims to be a hub for collaboration, connecting students, faculty, researchers, and regional partners to explore how technology can solve real-world problems. Whether it’s through workshops, research opportunities, or ethical discussions on AI use, CAIET is focused on educating the next generation of responsible innovators.
For those who missed the launch, a Zoom recording will be made available. Interested students can learn more about the center’s work or get involved as an ambassador by contacting [email protected].
