IUP hosted the Coal Bowl this year, and the Vulcans were looking to keep the coal bucket
for themselves. Except for last year, the bucket has changed hands every year since the Coal Bowl was created.
Last year, breaking the streak and becoming the first team to win the coal bowl back-to-back, California wanted to be the first three-peat team. Sadly, the results were not in the Vulcans’ favor. A 38-30 loss made the Vulcans fall short, but not without trying.
Phaeton Hill went 18 for 35, 214 yards, and 1 rushing touchdown. Deontae Williams caught 9 of those passes for 108 yards. The last home game and also senior day will be Saturday, Nov. 1, against Frostburg State. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
The volleyball team played three times since last week’s report and did not fare well.
Seton Hill played back-to-back. Once home on Tuesday the 21st, where they beat California 3-
2, then came to the Convocation Center to beat the Vulcans again, 3-1 on Friday the 24th.
Tuesday did not fare any better for the Vulcans volleyball team when the 17-5 Walsh Cavaliers came to town on the 28th and won 3-1. Next will be hosting Slippery Rock on Halloween. Usually, there isn’t much to write about Lady Vulcan’s soccer team, but not this time. They have not just secured not just one but two wins over the last week. On Saturday, the 25th, the team traveled to Clarion and won 2-1. Goals coming from Macrina Robb and Alexis Brown. That momentum rolled over when Seton Hill came to town on the 29th. Goals from Veronica Warunk got two, and Izabella DeGlopper took the victory from Seton Hill 3-1.
Next game is at IUP on Saturday, Nov. 1, before coming home for the last game of the season against Pitt-Johnstown on Nov. 5 for Senior Day.
Men’s Soccer did not have the same results. The men’s team has hit the same dry spell the women’s team just conquered, not having a win since September.
The Vulcans hosted Pitt-Johnstown and Lock Haven last week (22nd and 25th), and both of those games came out for the visiting team. Pitt-Johnstown won 2-1, and Lock Haven won 3-1. The boys traveled to Seton Hill on Wednesday, the 28th, and came home unhappy as they took a loss 2-0. Senior Day is Saturday, the 1st, for the boys before they head to Gannon on Thursday, the 6th, for the final game of the season.
