On Tuesday October 12th the Mercyhurst Lakers traveled to the Phillipsburg Complex to take on the California Vulcans at home. The match began at 6pm with the attendance of 66 people. This match came after the 5-1 blowout win over the current 2nd place team, Millersville. Unfortunately, the Lakers continued their domination of first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with a 3-1 win over the Vulcans.

With approximately 33:22 left in the first half Mercyhurst got on the board. Freshman, Antonio Simora, answered within 5 minutes’ time with his first collegiate goal of his career.

“It feels pretty special because I am from where Mercyhurst is so scoring against a hometown college is kind of a big deal for me. So it’s pretty exciting.” Simora Stated.

As the sun set and the brisk October temperature crept in, the second half began as the Vulcans continued to battle the PSAC juggernaut. Despite their efforts the Lakers put two more on the board to make the final 3-1.

The Vulcan squad simply looked like a completely different team than the one that squashed Millersville 4 days earlier. Mercyhurst’s roster is bolstered with mostly foreign players, 23 total, with only one student that hails from Pennsylvania.

Mercyhurst moves further into first place with 21 points. Millersville trails in second with 17 points. California’s Vulcans are tied for 7th place with 10 points. It is critical that the Vulcans win as many games as possible in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. Their overall record is 7-4-1 and the PSAC record being 3-3-1.
