This past Friday, Regina DeCicco performed in the Vulcan Theater. Known for her comedic vernacular and contributions in various festivals, DeCicco delivered an act, for those who attended, that will be hard to forget.

Students remarked that her show was, “witty,” “hilarious,” and “a joy to watch.”

Before the show started DeCicco talked and bantered with students to get a feel for the crowd and to establish an environment where everyone can have a good time. During the show she divulged some things about herself and her husband.

One story that stood out was when her husband once had a waitress bring her his leftover tater tots after a show; a student even called out, “relationship goals!”

A lot of the show was inspired by a certain Snapchat photo, but to what photo that was, you might want to ask someone who attended the show to spill some of the details.

When asked about her inspiration for each of her shows, she commented that she likes to look up each school online “to get a feel for the kind of school [she is] going to.” She also stated that she also likes to pay attention to her drive to each school, and joked “During my drive from New York City to California University of Pennsylvania, I thought, ‘Wow, it feels like this drive is taking forever!’”

All joking aside, she did comment that “the drive is absolutely worth it once you get to Cal U.”

Before DeCicco’s debut in stand-up, she worked behind the scenes at Saturday Night Live and was featured in many comedy themes festivals. While she was working at SNL, she started studying improve at The Upright Citizen Theatre in New York City with a team of other comedians. Soon after, she decided to start performing on her own.

“I really waited until I was ready to do stand-up,” she said. “It’s an extremely personal experience, and it’s different for everyone.”

Her advice to aspiring stand-up comedians is, “Just do it!”

The Student Activities Board holds Funny Freaking Friday once a month at the Vulcan Theatre. The next Funny Freaking Friday performer will be announced closer toward the next date.
