The annual “First Year Show” features only first-year students on campus. This is the first time the theatre has done a show on homecoming week in more than 25 years. This show kicks off the Theatre’s mission to produce an alumni show during homecoming, which will become an annual event.
The playwright of “Law and Order: Fairy Tale Unit,” Jonathan Rand, graced the Steele stage this year as a member of Cal Rep Theatre. More than 20 years ago, it was a semi-professional summer stock company. The play is a retelling of the story of the three pigs and the “Big Bad” Wolf. In this version, BB Wolf is framed by the 3 pigs, who are ultimately caught in an insurance fraud plot. A popular contemporary playwright, Rand has had his stage plays performed in 71 countries over 30,000 times.
On Saturday evening, the theatre is hosting the Homecoming and Community Dessert Reception. It will take place in the Natali Student Center between 6-8 p.m., following the homecoming football game and right before the final “Law and Order” performance. Students, alumni, friends, families, and members of the local community are invited to campus for live music, games, fun activities, sports challenges, and delicious treats.
