To kick off the first week of classes, Phi Gamma Delta hosted a flea market in collaboration with Flea-ji on the Natali Turf from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flea-ji, a traveling vintage market that partners directly with the FIJI fraternity, visited the California campus, bringing multiple vendors to sell vintage clothing to students. After raising $650 for the chapter, FIJI’s fundraising chair, Zachary Zizis, hinted that Flea-ji will be returning.
“It looks like Flea-ji the vintage flea market, will be returning next semester,” Zizis said when asked about a repeat of this event.
Although the chapter feels great about the turnout, they hope to bring in even more students for the next market.
“Next time we are looking to let more people know about it beforehand,” Zizis said.
With the market spanning over five hours, the chapter received a lot of positive feedback and engagement from the event. Some students even showed up earlier than the set start time to explore the almost fully-packed turf visible through the windows of the bustling student center.
“People were the most surprised with how many different vendors and options there were,” Zizis said.
Overall, the chapter was very proud of this event and its turnout.
“[It was] like more than just a fundraiser, it felt like bringing more life to campus,” Zizis said.
For their next fundraising endeavor, FIJI will raise money for the Red Cross with their semesterly “Pie the Feej” event on Wednesday, Sep. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the pavilion outside of the Natali Student Center.
