From Monday through Saturday of this week, PennWest California will be celebrating Student Appreciation Week. It is organized by members of the PennWest California Student Government.

Students have been encouraged to take part in events happening throughout the week, such as games, giveaways, shows, and food trucks.

Events kicked off on Monday, Nov. 7 with the announcement of a winner of the first giveaway. Instructions to enter were found on the Cal Student Government Instagram page. The winner will receive either Pittsburgh Penguins or Pittsburgh Steelers tickets, which are very

enticing for students.

Joe Myers, a PennWest California Senior, said if all he had to do is like an Instagram post and comment on it for a chance to win Penguin tickets, count him in.

“I’ll be participating in all their giveaways throughout the week. No reason not to,” Myers said.

A food truck could be found on campus that Monday night, along with an AVI scavenger hunt. Tuesday started with another Instagram giveaway as well as an AVI Pop Up Event, and another food truck. At 8 p.m., comedian and Pittsburgh native Derrick Knopsnyder performed in the Vulcan Theater inside Natali.

Wednesday, Nov. 9 had many events, which began with a Bakery Pop Up inside the Gold Rush from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Later that night, the Geology Club and Rainbow Alliance hosted a “Students Rock” event in the Airport Lounge in Natali. Food events on Wednesday included Pancakesgiving hosted by New Life and Cheese and Smiles presented by the Honors Program. At 8 p.m., Gift Card Bingo was held in the Natali food court area.

Mallory Cook, a PennWest California Junior, said as a broke college student, he could use some gift cards.

Another Instagram giveaway winner was revealed Thursday morning. At 11 a.m., s’mores were available at Vulcan Village. Also at that time, another food truck on campus. From 6 to 8 p.m., a Mix Off was held in Natali Hall and afterwards, a ‘Night at the Movies.’

On Friday, 50 free meals will be available in the Gold Rush for veterans with an ID. Friday is also “Spirit Day,” where students are encouraged to dress in PennWest apparel and show school spirit. There will also be a Pepsi giveaway and a cornhole tournament sponsored by Alpha Sigma Alpha.

The final day, Saturday, Nov. 12 begins with the last Instagram giveaway. At noon, the Cal football team takes on East Stroudsburg at Adamson Stadium. There will also be a BSU showcase in the Natali Performance Center at 7 p.m.

For every day of SAW, students have a 20% off bookstore coupon. Laundry will also be free from 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11.
