A Look at The Vulcans Athletic Teams

Volleyball 

The Vulcans Volleyball Team took a loss and a win this week. The first game they lost was last Friday, Oct. 7, against Seton Hill with a score of 3-2 Seton Hill. In their second game, they clenched a win this past Tuesday, Oct. 11, against Pitt-Johnstown with a score of 3-2 California. During the game, Freshman, Ashley Barnes, recorded a season-high 34 assists and 13 digs for her second assist/dig double-double of the month. The Vulcans return Friday, Oct. 14, as they travel to Erie, to face Gannon starting at 7 p.m. 

Football 

The Vulcans Football Team took a loss at home against IUP Saturday, Oct. 8, with a score of 22-21 IUP. This was California’s first home loss in the history of the Coal Bowl. The Vulcans play again this Saturday, Oct. 15, as they travel to face Seton Hill starting at 6 p.m.

Soccer 

The Vulcan men’s Soccer Team got a win at home this past Saturday, Oct. 8, against Pitt-Johnstown with a score of 1-0 California. They also suffered a loss this past Wednesday, Oct.15, against Shippensburg with a score of 2-1 Shippensburg. The Vulcans travel Saturday, Oct. 15, to face Mercyhurst starting at 3 p.m. 

The Vulcan Women’s Soccer Team got a win at home this past Saturday, Oct. 8, against Pitt-Johnstown with a score of 2-1 California. This was the Vulcan’s third straight win for the first time since 2015. They also suffered a loss this past Wednesday, Oct. 12, against Clarion at home with a score of 1-0 Clarion. The Vulcans travel Saturday, Oct. 15, to face up against Mercyhurst starting at 1 p.m.

Cross Country 

The Vulcan Women’s Cross-Country Team placed fourth at Carnegie Mellon last Saturday, Oct. 8. Malia Anderson finished fourth overall with a time of 18 minutes, 55.5 seconds. The Vulcans return on Oct. 22 at the Bill Lennox Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock.

The Vulcan Men’s Cross-Country Team finished fifth at Carnegie Mellon last Saturday, Oct. 8. Junior, Noah Bernarding, finished eighth overall with a time of 26 minutes, 1.1 seconds. The Vulcans return on Oct. 22 at the Bill Lennox Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock. 

Tennis 

The Vulcans Tennis Team brought home a victory in the opening round of the doubles bracket last Sunday and Monday, Oct. 9-10 at the Individual Championships in Bloomsburg. 

Golf 

The Vulcans Women’s Golf Team placed second at Davis and Elkins Championship this past Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11. Senior, Rachel Wilson, and Freshman, Ari Kaser, registered top-five finishes. This marked the end of the fall for the Vulcans.
