Sports Recap Week of Oct. 2

Volleyball 

The Vulcans Volleyball Team brought home 2 wins and 1 loss this past week. The first game was against Mercyhurst last Friday, Sept. 30 with a score of 3-2 California. In their second game, they suffered a loss against Edinboro with a score of 3-0 Edinboro last Saturday, Oct. 1. The third game they won was against Slippery Rock this past Wednesday, Oct. 4, with a score of 3-2 California. The Vulcans travel this Friday, Oct. 7, to play against Seton Hill starting at 6 p.m. 

Football  

The Vulcans Football Team brought home a win against Clarion last Saturday, Oct. 1, with a score of 59-14 California. During the game, the team intercepted 2 passes and blocked two punts. The Vulcans play again this Saturday, Oct. 8, at home against IUP for the Coal Bowl starting at noon. 

Soccer 

The Vulcans Women’s Soccer Team brought home a win against IUP this past Wednesday, Oct. 5, with a score of 2-1 California. Freshman, Ashley Barnes, led the team with 20 assists and Senior, Kelly Lynch, finished the game with 19 digs. The Vulcans play again this Saturday, October 8, as they host Pitt-Johnstown at home on Saturday, October 8, starting at 3:30 p.m. 

The Vulcans Men’s Soccer Team lost one game and won another this past week. The team lost their first game against Gannon last Saturday, Oct. 1, with a score of 7-1 Gannon. The team then won their second game against West Liberty this past Wednesday, Oct. 5, with a score of 2-0 California. Senior, Chance Pursifull, scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the fifth minute of the game. The Vulcans play again this Saturday, Oct. 8, as they host Pitt-Johnstown starting at 1 p.m.

Cross Country 

The Vulcans Men’s Cross-Country Team finished 32nd overall last Saturday, Oct. 1, with 760 points at Louisville. Junior, Jonathan Thrush, posted a top-20 finish. The Vulcans return this Saturday, Oct. 8, at Carnegie Mellon Invitational starting at 10 A.M.  

The Vulcans Women’s Cross-Country Team finished 30th overall last Saturday, Oct. 1, with a total of 767 points in Louisville. The Vulcans return this Saturday, Oct. 8, at Carnegie Mellon Invitational starting at 11 A.M. 

Golf 

The Vulcans Men’s Golf Team tied for second at Clarion this past Sunday and Monday, Oct. 2-3. Junior, Connor Alfieri, tied for second overall on the individual leaderboard. The Vulcans return Oct. 14-16 to close out the season at the PSAC Championships.

The Vulcan Women’s Golf Team returns to action Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11, at Davis and Edgell Championship. 

Tennis 

The Vulcans Tennis Team games last Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Oct. 1-3 were postponed until this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Oct. 8-10, at the PSAC Individual Championships in Bloomsburg.
