The Vulcans suffered a 16-7 loss to Seton Hill at Adamson Stadium last Saturday, Oct. 4. Despite a strong start with a 33-yard run by Agenor, the Vulcans turned the ball over on a fumble, setting the tone for a challenging game. Seton Hill advanced inside the Cal 10-yard line but was stopped when Vessah blocked a 22-yard field goal attempt early in the first quarter. Cal crossed midfield late in the quarter on a 26-yard pass to Penn, only to have an interception at the Griffins’ 11-yard line end the drive.
In the second quarter, Seton Hill took a 6-0 lead with a 1-yard touchdown run, missing the extra point. The Vulcans responded by recovering a fumble and scoring on a 16-yard touchdown catch by Agenor, taking a 7-6 lead into halftime. The Griffins dominated the fourth quarter with a seven-minute drive that ended with a 32-yard field goal to regain the lead. Seton Hill sealed the victory with a 48-yard touchdown run by Ky’Ron Craggette, the league’s leading rusher from last season, with just over two minutes remaining. The Griffins’ quarterback also converted a third-and-18 with a 30-yard scramble.
The Vulcans hope to bounce back when they travel to face Edinboro on Saturday, Oct. 11, in another PSAC West matchup. The Fighting Scots, coming off a 35-12 loss to IUP, opened last week with a dramatic 21-20 comeback win over Clarion.
