Kicking the week off, the Women’s Volleyball team had its home opener against Glenville State. Vulcans coming off the road with a 10-2 record, going 3-0 at the Walsh Hall of Fame Classic, 4-0 at the Kutztown Shannon Sullivan Memorial Tournament, and facing their two losses splitting the Atlantic Regional crossover 2-2. Adding three more wins to their belt, being perfect at home so far, with wins including a 3-0 over Bloomsburg on Friday the 26th, and game 3 of 3 being on the 27th, beating Lock Haven 3-1.
Men’s and Women’s soccer also played on Saturday, the 27th. Sadly, both teams walked away with a loss over the weekend. The men’s team traveled to West Chester, where they were hoping to get a win, since coming up empty in game 2 on Sept. 10 against Malone. Last game being a tie at home against Shippensburg, three days later, a 1-3 loss is what they found. They are hoping to correct their ship on their way to Pitt-Johnstown when we flip the calendar on Wednesday, the 1st. Sitting at a current record of 2-3-1.
The Women’s team hasn’t fared any better this season as they tried to find their first win of the season, as they hosted Edinboro at 1 p.m. on Saturday, the 27th. After a long, exhausting game, the Lady Vulcans are still looking for that win, currently sitting at 0-6-1. Hoping their next game hosting IUP on the 1st at 6 p.m., the new month of October will give this team the fresh start the desperately needs.
To add insult to injury for the Women’s athletics, the 2-1 tennis team came up empty against Bloomsburg at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Losing the match by 2 sets to 5. This brings the team to a 2-1 record heading into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tournaments that will take place between Oct. 2 – 5.
To end on a brighter note, Vulcan Football traveled to Slippery Rock on Saturday for a 6 p.m. game. The game was a nail-biting experience for both teams until the end. The game was tied minute left on the clock, 38-38. The ball was handed off for Kendrick Agenor to run 14 yards, finding the endzone, and Harry Radcliffe to finish off the game, allowing the Vulcans to improve their record to 4-0 on the season. Rowman Purcell was the general on the field for this one, going 13 for 26 attempts for 233 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception, including rushing 6 yards to put a score on the board in the 1st quarter. The Vulcans hope to keep this streak alive when they host Seton Hill on Oct. 4.
