To start off recruitment season, Meet the Greeks was held on Sep. 16 from 3 to 4 p.m. on the Natali Turf, giving people the chance to interact with sororities before recruitment formally begins.
There was an orientation session held on both Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and Friday at 11 a.m. in Duda Hall 103, where students were able to get more information on the recruitment process as a whole.
The five sororities on the PennWest California campus are Alpha Sigma Alpha, Alpha Sigma Tau, Delta Zeta, Phi Sigma Sigma, and Sigma Kappa. First-semester freshmen with a minimum 2.75 high school GPA, as well as those with at least 12 completed college credits with a minimum 2.0 college GPA, are eligible to sign up for recruitment.
Open House, which is where students will meet the five chapters, will be held on Friday at 5:45 p.m. in Duda 103.
Recruitment event schedules for each specific chapter can be found on Instagram @pwcalpanhellenic and will be explained in further detail during orientation.
Senior criminal justice major Alexis Steenburg, who is currently the President of Panhellenic, originally joined her sorority in Spring of 2022 during formally structured recruitment.
“Panhellenic is the governing body of the five chapters on campus,” Steenburg said. “I wanted to get involved because I wanted to be able to have an influence on the future of sorority life on our campus.”
After keeping an open mind when meeting each chapter during her own recruitment experience, Steenburg encourages students to do the same.
“You might connect with a chapter you weren’t expecting to originally,” Steenburg said.
Students of PennWest California interested in joining one of the five sororities on campus are able to sign up for recruitment until Monday, Sep. 22, at 12 p.m. using the link in @pwcalpanhellenic Instagram bio.
