On Friday, Apr. 11, our Vulcans (23-6, 10-3) played nationally ranked Seton Hill (24-8, 10-4) in a doubleheader at EQT Park in Washington. The Vulcans ended up shutting out Seton Hill in the first game and then falling in the 2nd game, splitting the games 1-1. The results of these games place California in the first-place position of the PSAC West.
The first game of the day went perfectly for the Vulcans, as they ended up putting up their first complete shutout since Apr. 2023, and Junior Michael Valente recorded his first career shutout in the process. The Vulcans jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first from an RBI by Senior Nathan Meeks. The lead was then expanded in the fifth inning when Meeks hit a three-run home run, recording his fourth of the year. The Vulcans never let a run up in this game, securing the first game with a 5-0 victory.
The second game was unfortunately not great for the Vulcans, as they were held to only 1 run. Seton Hill scored early in the first and then piled on runs in the 3rd inning as well. The Vulcans managed to score off of a sacrifice fly, but it was not enough as the Griffins won the 2nd game 5-1.
The Vulcans, now leading the PSAC West, return to PSAC play on Friday, as they host IUP in Washington in a doubleheader, before heading to IUP for another doubleheader the next day.
