For 13 years, the non-profit Village Early Childhood Education Center’s annual Shoe and Purse Bash fundraiser to benefit young children and single-parent, full-time students has been as much of a tradition as Saturday college football. Year after year, lucky winners have gone home with designer purses and shoes and gorgeous auction baskets.
Initially held at Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville, Pa., this year’s Bash would have marked the third year at California University of Pennsylvania’s Performance Arts Center.
When Cal U recently suspended fall events due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Village Board of Directors discussed cancelling the event or going virtual.
With so many unknowns regarding a virtual event, The Village was thrilled when Pam DelVerne, SAI Director of Technology Services, met via Zoom to discuss online event possibilities. The talents and resources of CUTV and the bash planning experience of The Village are combining to make the 2020 Shoe and Purse Bash festive, fast-paced and fun, particularly for dozens of winners.
“The Village is especially grateful to University President Jones for her continued support of the Shoe and Purse Bash,” Chairman Clark Harrison said.
This year’s one-hour event will be held on Nov. 1 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. via YouTube. Live and prerecorded segments will be produced at California University Television (CUTV) station with hosts and Cal U alumni Beth Bershok and Ashley Roth.
