We’re All Born Naked & The Rest Is Drag

October 18, 2016

On Thursday, Oct. 13, Alaska was crowned as RuPaul’s newest drag race star. This time around, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars had a brand new concept, rules, and twists. The cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race were forced to turn against each other and send each other home.

The show hosted many mini challenges followed by a weekly challenge. Each week’s top two queens were announced as winners. The top two queens would lip sync for their legacies, rather than in past seasons when the two bottom queens would lip sync for their lives. The winner of the week’s top two lip sync battle ultimately had the power to send one of the weeks bottom queens home.

This season’s twist had queens choose their friends over the competition for an ultimate grand prize of $100,000, a lifetime supply of Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Cosmetics, and a picture in the Drag Race hall of fame.

Drag Race winner Alaska won a total of four weekly challenges that rewarded her an extra $10,000 and was only in the bottom once. While Alaska was in the bottom the other queens competing were certain of Alaska’s departure. Luckily for Alaska one of his closest friends, Drag Race star Detox, won the lip sync battle that week and he was not ready to say goodbye to his closest friend Alaska.

On the night of this season’s finale, Drag Race’s newest winner Alaska released a statement saying she bribed Detox with $10,000 to keep her there that week. It is not confirmed if this impacted Detox’s shocking decision of sending home deserving queen Alyssa Edwards.

California University of Pennsylvania sophomore, Monica Flickinger, said, “Alyssa Edwards probably would have won if she stayed, and she should of. I think Detox’s decision that week was based off of friendship.”

Alaska super-fan Shannon Donnelly stated, “I don’t keep up with Ru Paul’s Drag Race, but I heard that Alaska girl is from Pittsburgh and I think it’s cool that she’s the second queen from Pitt to take home the crown.”

Ru Paul’s All Stars two finale was filed with fun choreography and song that the top four queens of the season performed side by side. Queens got their own song verse and dance solo to showcase their individual talents. Not one of the judges on the judging panel had any critics.

Ru Paul herself said, “You are all All Stars, remember that.”

Social media has showed mixed feelings on Alaska’s crowning. Alaska immediately released her first studio album after the season finale featuring a song called The T blatantly “spilling the tea” on All Stars Two.

Alaska stated, “$100,000, it ain’t that much, to mess up your mind and all the friends that you trust.”

Alaska was the tenth queen to be crowned America’s next drag superstar.
